Like the heroes of rock before them, The Effects were born in a Tulsa basement. Joel King started writing, recording, and playing at every possible opportunity. Joel and his backing band, already called The Effects, began to build a strong following in and around Tulsa. However, the last missing part of the band fell into place in Des Moines, where Joel met Jeff Krantz. Jeff was a guitar master broken from the same mold as the rock n roll masters of old. By 2006, the whole band was settled in Oklahoma and playing over two hundred shows a year across the country.

The band traveled out to California to record their first EP with the help of producer Jeff Saltzman, who had done work with the Killers, the Black Keys, and the Sounds. As the news hit the streets, the band found themselves thrust into the limelight on MTV with “The Hills” and “Kaya,” as well as garnering a write up in SPIN magazine. Recordings, whether on TV or no, were not the bands claim to fame. Their live shows were grabbing the attention of fans everywhere and the band has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in rock today, Kings of Leon, the Roots, Phantom Planet, the Toadies and many more.

In 2008 they put out their EP, And It Is…, independently while playing many gigs and music festivals to promote their album. By October of 2008, The Effects decided it was time for a change and moved to the Music City, Nashville, TN. It wasn’t long before they discovered a final piece of the puzzle. Aaron Spraggs had ridden his motorcycle to Nashville only a few months before and joined the band as their drummer. His steady rhythms kicked things up a notch and brought new energy to an already electric group.

In 2009, the band was honored to be invited on a USO tour to Iraq and Kuwait where they played several shows for the US troops stationed there. They played their hearts out in 130 degree weather and won over plenty of new fans in uniform. The band currently lives and rocks in Nashville, where they are booking dates for the fall and rehearsing for the road. The Effects have breathed life back into a style of music missing since the days of Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. Long live Rock
